About Jeff Mahin
As the son of an engineer and a scientist, I have been driven to challenge tradition from a young age. I began experimenting with food in my teen years and at 17, enrolled into the California Culinary Academy which is where I truly discovered my fervor for the food world. After finishing culinary school, I had the opportunity to work under master chefs around the world such as Heston Blumenthal (The Fat Duck) in the UK + at restaurants like Nobu in New York & San Francisco's Millennium sharpening my skills and learning the importance of quality ingredients.
Returning stateside in 2007 I was lucky enough to land at Laurent Gras' L2O in Chicago where I first met the "Lettuce Entertain You" team, collaborating closely with the hospitality group's partners to develop new ideas for some of the their most revered restaurants. In 2011 I partnered with LEYE to open our first Stella Barra Pizzeriea location in Santa Monica, bringing my knack for reconstruction to create the restaurants now signature pizza crust.
I am excited to keep challenging the status quo through my collaboration with The FareTrade. For my basket, we selected ingredients synoymous with Italy but heightened with modern sensibilities; the types of ingredients that I create in my own kitchen on a daily basis and make my food loaded with rich flavors.
