Considered a "chef's chef", Sarah Schafer is classically trained in French cuisine + exhibits a fond respect for her purveyors and ingredients.
With a profound pursuit of perfection, Sarah's love of food harkens back her Boston upbringing - immersed in a world of cooking alongside her mother and great grandmother. Working her way through culinary school, Sarah jumped into the restaurant world with Chef Ken Orringer before heading to New York City to work with Tom Colicchio at the renowned Gramercy Tavern - where she quickly became Sous Chef. Sarah moved on to open highly acclaimed 11 Madison Park as Executive Sous Chef before moving out West + eventually landing at her current post - Executive Chef of Irving St. Kitchen in Portland, Oregon.
Having adopted an understanding for the importance of community involvement, Sarah is the Chef Chair for Taste of The Nation, Portland + hosts the annual No Kid Hungry dinner at her restaurant.
Known for her soulful approach to food, Sarah's cuisine at Irving St. Kitchen is deeply rooted in slow cooking with an unwavering commitment to the highest quality standards of conduct.
