Executive Chef, Decca, Louisville, KY
Born and raised in the "Foodtopian Society" of Asheville, North Carolina, Chef Pettry has been ensconced in the culinary world from a young age. Foraging for mushrooms, fishing for trout and growing her own vegetables from a young age, Pettry was influenced by global cuisines, learning how to cook from her parents global cooking style.
A criss-cross journey across America has helped Pettry land where she is today. Heading out West, Pettry moved to San Francisco to partake in the pastry program of The Meeting House in San Francisco. Building off her time in SF, Pettry headed back East to formalize her skills at New York City's French Culinary Institute, which she parlayed into a gig with Craig Koketsu of Park Avenue. With a brief stint back in her home town of Asheville to work with Elliot Moss at The Admiral, Pettry found her way back to San Francisco in the kitchen of James-Beard nominated chef Loretta Keller.
It was Keller who paved the way for Pettry's current post at Decca in Louisville, KY - where she sits as Executive Chef + has picked up numerous awards. Having never visted the city of Louisville previously, Pettry took the position on blind faith. Fully immersing herself into the Louisville culinary scene, Pettry combines the bright flavors of California, the products of the South, and the avant-garde styles of New York City into her subtle, soulful dishes at Decca with uncompromising commitment to quality, a respect for technique, and an artistic sensibility that results in a balanced yet exhilarating eating experience.
Located in the heart of downtown Louisville’s NuLu district, Decca features local artists and musicians alongside inspired food and drinks in a warm atmosphere. A commitment to locally farmed and small production ingredients is evident in the kitchen, and throughout the bar and wine program. Decca makes its home in a historically renovated 1870’s building, and features two intimate dining rooms, an outdoor courtyard, and a beautiful brick and limestone cellar for libations and revelry.
